Hi Ya Folks!

It's been a whole full month since the last enewsletter went out. Wow, and what a month it has been. I have quite a few updates for you. We will start with the new patterns in the Archive. I'm happy to report it's now completely up to date with all the patterns, so go take a look for yourself.

New Patterns & How-To's in the Archive

Crochet Scrap Basket (original post) (download pdf)

Laundry Loader (original post) (download pdf)

Saving My Knitting :: Picking Up Dropped Stitches (original post)
Sewing on Shankless Buttons :: Fabric Buttons Part II (original post)
Making Fabric Buttons Part I (original post)

Apartment Redress :: Laundry Days and the Lamp Redressed

I finished up the lamp and I think it turned out pretty snazzy. You can see all the images from the redress here on flickr.
The Laundry Loader took a bit longer than I thought it would with a few hang ups with the weather and being called in to work. But it's finished and in use. Jason likes it as much as I do so that's a good sign of more organized laundry to come. I went ahead and wrote it up as a pattern, so you can make your own too!

Shop Update

I haven't been updating the shop as much as I would like, but I have a new batch of kits finished up, photos taken and edited and I've started to post them.
This actually brings up a point that I wanted to talk to you about. I posted it on the blog, but I wanted to talk to you directly about it too. This past month, I crunched the numbers and figured out that when my student loans come in next month I'm just not making enough... yet. So I picked up a part time job. It's caused a bit of a set back in my flow of work, but I'm starting to get things ironed out and it's getting back to crafty as usual around here. My hope was that after 4 months of working on things full time after graduating I would be making enough to cover my student loans when they started to come in. Well. I'm close. Just about $200 a month away from being able to pay all my bills each month, but $200 is $200 and that is that so I picked up a part time job. My hope is that in the next 6 months I will be up to the level of sales and a good flow of payments from published work that will allow me to quit this part time deal :) Like I said, I'm really close. I'm hea
ding in the right direction, we are heading in the right direction really. It is you and your support and your sales and clm subscriptions that make working from home possible after all. Even having to have a part time job... it's so much better than having to get a full time one, and I thank you so much for that. I can't wait until I can be your's full time again.

Kit Giveaway Winners!

Last month I gave away a free shop item!
Kathy won and promptly picked out her very own Craft Leftovers Badge! She's showing her pride in using up her craft leftovers! Thank you!

This Month's Drawing

I'm mixing things up a little bit for this month's drawing. I'm going to offer up a pretty exciting prize. A free subscription to Craft Leftovers Monthly for one month. I'm premiering a new layout this month for the Holiday issue! It's going to be crazy awesome if I do say so myself. Packed with loads of the usual crafty goodness (kit, fabric, buttons, goodies) and I'm enlarging the zine a bit! It's almost doubling in size and I'm soooo happy about this. I'm adding craft stories, puzzles, trivia, articles on historical craft interests. And of course a project, craft room tips, and a few yummy recipes. One of the things I have found is over this past year is that I'm having a hard time writing up the zine because of it's size. Editing things down so they fit has always been an issue and then it's always a trade off, more text so I don't have a million fragment sentences, or more illustrations, which are fun and cute and visually nice. So now, I get to have both! Illustrations
and text!
So how to win? Send me a link to your favorite election craft/fabric/diy project by Saturday, November 8th. I'll let you know if you've won on Sunday when I put clm in the shop.

Craft Leftovers Monthly

Craft Leftovers Monthly will be on sale from Sunday, November 9th, 2008 - Wednesday, November 12th and all subscriptions will be sent out Monday, November 17th.

And it will be in the etsy shop! That's right, I'm moving it back to etsy! I guess the same reason why I moved the whole shop there :) I just miss my etsy community. And I'm going to go back to just offering a limited amount of new subscriptions each month. I've found that it really goes from "fun" to "frenzy" if I'm sending out more than 35 each month. So only 15 new subscriptions will be available for the holiday issue.

You can be sure to buy it and get it in plenty of time to give to a friend. Oh and if you get one as a gift for a friend and already have a subscription or are getting a subscription for yourself, you will get 20% off your gift! Just put "I want a gift for my crafty buddy too" and I'll send you a revised invoice for 2 subscriptions, one for 20% off! I'll post about that in the listing as well as on the blog too.

Best wishes and Keep it Crafty!

Kristin Roach

Hi Ya Folks!

I'm changing things around a bit with the mailing list from here on out. It's going to be a bit more of a monthly newsletter than a random sending out of updates. It should be more fun for you and more fun for me! On the second Wednesday of each month you will get the run down on all that's happened in the past month, what's coming up in the near future, plus special deals in the shop and contests just for you! And with that, let's get down to business!

New Patterns in the Archive

Love Bug Clutch (original post) (download pdf)

Apartment Redress :: Sewing Chair & Lamp Remake

I've had a lot of fun continuing the Apartment Redress this month. I've successfully reupholstered my chair and started redoing my lamp! I seriously think I would have kept putting these things off if I hadn't started this new series. I created a collection for the Apartment Redress and there is a set for each project. I made a before and after picture for the Dresser Refinish and the Sewing Chair. I'm hoping to have the lamp completely finished up by Tuesday.

How To :: A New Wednesday Series

On September 3rd I had the idea to post a short tutorial on how to recycle a sweater for it's yarn. It went over so well that I decided I should post How-To's more often. The next was on mending clothing - about the best way to reuse what you already have on hand. Then I did a tutorial on how to use a knitting life line and different reasons to use them. The last one was making potato stamps and different ideas for using them. So that was quite a bit and I'm seeing a trend forming here. They won't be every week, but most Wednesdays you will see a new How To pop up on the blog. I decided to add a "::How-To::" to the Pattern Archive so all you folks can browse through the
m nice and easy.

Shop Update

Things at the new shop have been going great! I love being back on etsy, and even better, Craft Leftovers Kits and Reusable Tea Bags have been selling well since the move. I've also been updating regularly, so a few new kits every day or so. I just made up a new batch of kits this week and will start adding them tomorrow. I have many new kits that I haven't offered in the shop before, so make sure go check it out, and check back often.

Kit Giveaway Winners!

Last month I gave away 3 kits!

Jennifer M - Jennifer, if you see this, I have yet to hear back from you, but your free kit is still good. Just email me.

Angie W of MulitCrafty - She picked up a free kit for Lainie's Tote

Tammy GTamdoll Blog and Tamdoll Etsy Shop Tammy went for a Hook Clutch Kit and decided to take advantage of the free shipping and bought a summer headwrap kit too! Thanks so much for participating!

This Month's Drawing

Same rules pretty much, and the same prize pretty much! Just reply to the newsletter and let me know how you first heard about Craft Leftovers. I'll put all the names in jar, pick one and you win! You have until October 12th to enter. I'll draw the winner on the 13th and email the winner on the same day.

So what do you win? You can pick out anything you would like from the Craft Leftovers up to a $10 value and you get free shipping. (the change is that you can pick out handmade goodies too, like a catnip pillow for your kitty! I know my Craft Cat would approve.)

Craft Leftovers Monthly

Craft Leftovers Monthly will be going on sale on Sunday, September 12th, 2008. It will stay in the Big Cartel shop as it's easier logistically for me and a heck of a lot easier on fees! Haha. There will be a lot of great projects and how-tos and tips this time around with a great kit for the Bumpy Face Cloth (knit or crochet) and the yarn in the kit will all be hand recycled cotton yarn from old sweaters! Great fabrics, buttons, and trims too of course. You can see info about Craft Leftovers Monthly here and see last month's listing here or if you just want to see some pictures of past subscriptions, check out the flickr set.

Best wishes and Keep it Crafty!

There have been quite a few patterns added to the archive this past month, I finally have it all up to date.

New Patterns in the Archive

Dresser Redress: Parts I - 3

This month I've started the Apartment Redress project and with that, have been posting 5 days a week. I'm really excited about this. Basically every Tuesday and Thursday I've been posting about my efforts to get my apartment whipped into shape and more like a home than just a studio. It has started with the Dresser Redress: my efforts to get the laundry out of the laundry basket and put away. You can read about it here: Introduction + Part I + Part II + Part Going nowhere + Part III. Check out Part IV tomorrow afternoon on the blog. I will have made much progress (or at least that's the hope!).

New Contribute and Support Craft Leftovers Page

This section isn't super new, but since this is the first newsletter I thought I would toss it in here. I've had a few inquiries about how to support Craft Leftovers and I decided to put this page together. There are so many ways to help out, both financially by purchasing kits in the shop to donating your craft leftovers to the effort (can you believe I'm running out of some things?) and non-financially though contributing time (making comments, testing patterns, being a guest designer, etc). So if you are interested in supporting the Craft Leftovers Cause, go check it out.

I am looking to have one guest designer a month to provide the weekly pattern. It will help out a ton during the week I'm getting Craft Leftovers Monthly ready to go out the door. Especially until I get ahead in the pattern writing. I'm happy to report that is starting to happen. I just sent off my first pattern to my new troop of pattern testers and I'm really excited about that. They are also going through the Cherry Chirp Pattern, which I'm afraid is full of errors. By the end of next week a new corrected version should be available. I'm really excited about this because I love that little pattern and I was so sad at the poor quality of the writing on my part. I didn't even know what I was talking about! I'll post on the blog when the corrected version is published.

Shop Update

I've decided to move the shop back to etsy, but under a new username: CraftLeftovers! (of course!) and will have a grand re-opening this week, starting Monday, September 15th! Everything will be on sale! The new shop will find its new home here. To kick off the new shop home, I've decided to have a kit giveaway contest here.

Kit Giveaway!

It's super easy! Just reply to this newsletter with some feedback on Craft Leftovers: What do you like now, what would you like to see in the future? It's that easy. I'll have a drawing and notify the winners on Monday. That's right winners with an S! There will be 3 prizes. Each person drawn will get a free kit up to a $15 value, you get to choose! I'll do a winner round up in the next newsletter to with links back to the winners' blogs.

Craft Leftovers Monthly

Craft Leftovers Monthly will be going on sale on Sunday, September 14th, 2008. It will stay in the Big Cartel shop as it's easier logistically for me and a heck of a lot easier on fees! Haha. There will be a lot of great projects and how-tos and tips this time around with a great kit for the Pin Cushion hang up that will include little handmade quilt blocks to accent the sides. Great fabrics, buttons, and trims too. Another little surprise goody will be in there as well, but well, it's a surprise. You can see info about Craft Leftovers Monthly here and see last month's listing here.

So that's it for this month! I hope you all enter the contest for the give away, don't forget about the giveaway on the blog too for CRAFTzine 07 and 08!
Best wishes and Keep it Crafty!

Sorry about the long delay in announcing the last contests winner and posting a new contest!

So the answer to last week's question was as our lovely winner wrote:
"Elizabeth Zimmerman independently published her first newsletter, The Opinionated Knitter, in 1958.

And the winner Carrie said:
"Knitting Without Tears ROCKS!!"

I so agree!

So for this week, the craft trivia question is:
Where did the word crochet come from (location/word)? And what do you like best about that country?

Oh tricky, tricky! If you get it right you will get a special package of goodies just for you!

Now to the updates!

Because of the lack of activity that will be happening on cl for the next two months, I'm going to move the mailing list contest to the blog-o and it will be the craft leftovers contest in general. A new one every week.

I have also decide that maybe during these two months off, I could have guest designers. Are you interested? Have a project idea? Reply to this email and let me know. It can be something you have already posted about or written, just so long as it is made up of, or could be made up from, leftovers from crafting.

My last point of interest is that I'm doing well, cranking through my school projects, and seeing some light at the end of this senior year tunnel. Thank you so much to everyone who has sent me words of support, it really does make me feel so much better!

Okay folks. I'm late, but I'm here!

Yesterday was one of those days. Found out the gallery my bfa show is at double booked that week, so my friend and I being undergrads were the ones to get moved. Then I lost my lady moss mitten and locked my keys in the car, fell on my back out with the nape of my neck landing right on something hard, then smashed my finger in the cabinet. Holy moly. Just one of those.

But it did end with knitting and hot chocolate so today I woke up cheery and things are looking up. Then I remembered! The contest!
So here we are. The correct answer for how many magazines does interweave press publish is (drum roll please):
21 in all. Some are quarterly, some are once a year, and some are special issues. Wow.

I honestly had no idea that they published Fiber Arts, one of my favorite fiber arts magazines. Personally I lean towards knit scene, but I love what interweave crochet is doing for crochet patterns too. Ah, I love them all really!

So I am happy to say that after a random drawing, Sherri is the winner of this past weeks craft trivia question. She will get a wonderful box full of buttons, trim, fabric and other little doo dads! Hooray! Out of all of them, she says that Interweave Crochet is her favorite. Good choice!

This week's question?
What year did Elizabeth Zimmerman independently publish her first newsletter? If you have any of her books/patterns which is your favorite?

She is such a cool power house of knitting genius!

You have until Sunday March 23rd (easter) to submit your answer! GO!

WAIT, not yet, hehe.

One more thing. Craft Leftovers Monthly is currently on sale until Friday night (after I get off work), March 21st. There are only 4 left, so if you want one, you better snatch it up now.

Thanks to everyone who has participated in the trivia mailing list contest!
For a book give away contest, head over to http://kristinroach.wordpress.com. I'm having a book give aways every week (posted on wednesdays) until I move in May.
See you all soon!
HiYa!

I'm really super excited about April's clm because it's my birthday month! I really love to give presents on my birthday more than get them. I always love little party favors and door prizes. It's just more fun to spread the birthday giving spirit around more so than keep it in one place.

I'm going to have a zine full of fun things that I love around my birthday time.
Stuff about gardening, because I really miss mine and want to get my hands in the dirt. The least I can do is share some gardeny crafty goodness around.
Fun stories.
And and and! I'm going to pack each box to the brim with all sorts of little doo dads. To make it more fun, instead of using packing "peanuts" (something I've been thinking about), I'm going to use all sorts of fabric scraps and larger pieces. There will also be little buried treasures in there too. Of course buttons, but other little thingies to make you smile.

A great issue coming up for sure!

It will be in the shop on Sunday night until Friday night and go out the Wednesday after that.
I will post all the facty fact stuff tomorrow morning with the pattern.
Hi there Everyone!

First off I want to apologize for those who are getting a double message from me, when I sent it out, the formating was somehow stripped from the text and it was just one huge chunk paragraph. It was pretty annoying to read I'm sure.

I have an extra special treat for all of you on the mailing list! A couple of different things actually. Right now I'm in the process of destashing and clearing out a bunch of craft supplies before the big move in a couple of months. Well, some things I just know I'm never going to use, I have too many of, or have used a ton and am exhausted as far as ideas go. So I want to share them with all of you! I also have a lot of random little thingies and baskets, so I'm going to make up baskets of fabric, ribbon, buttons, and little do-dads. I'm going to put some in the shop next week.

And, here's the part you might all be really interested in, I'm going to start having weekly drawings. Every monday after I get home from class I'll send out the week's question. Everyone has one week to respond and those who get it right will be entered into a random drawing for a basket. I'll announce the winner with the next week's question. The questions are pretty easy to find the answer to and will very in difficulty. The fancier the grab bag, the harder the question. We will start out with an easy one.

So to recap:
Every Monday night around 10pm I'll send out the week's trivia question and announce the winner from the last week.
You have until That Sunday night to send me your answer.
If you get the question right, you will be entered into a drawing for a basket of craft goodies.

This week's question is:
How many magazines does Interweave Press publish? What are their names? What is your favorite?

Now GO!

hehe, you have until Sunday night to send me the answer at craftleftovers@gmail.com.
