Home Redress: A new home a new series!

newhome01

Before it’s always been “Apartment Redress.” Now that we are living in a house, I’ll continue the redress projects in my home. :)

First though, I want to give you an overview of the place. Today’s post is going to show what it looks like now. As we fix things up, I’ll post about it.

Redress: Butterick Dress Part 2

redress-butterickdress-feature

Hopefully this will be the last part before the finishing post. Taking your generous advice, I went with option 3. After thinking about it, the gathers with the gathered fabric would have looked frumpy for sure. I think the nice, straight cotton is perfect. Plus, once I cut it out, the landscape of flowers was just too perfect.

Redress: Thrift Store Adventures

thriftstore01
It can be overwhelming looking for clothing at the thrift store. There is so much and a lot of it doesn’t fit, is stained, is torn, or is just a completely bizarre fashion. When I want to find really golden clothing items, this is how I approach it so it doesn’t take all day or overwhelm me.

Fixing up my pants, buttons, shirts

mending01
A big part of the wardrobe redress project is to fix up the clothes I love, so I don’t feel obligated to wear the clothing I don’t love because they are in better condition. This week I tackled my mending basket and fixed up three of my favorite items.

Studio Redress: Drawer Divider

drawerdividers04 Look at that mess. Sure it’s not horrible. At least it’s all in one drawer. But it could be a whole lot better and my friend Aimee got it into her head to set things straight. And check this out, organized! And I found out I have a bunch of neat stuff that has not made its way into the shop.

Wardrobe Redress: Making Shirts + Using up Stash

shirtlining02
I’m not sure what it is about this particular set of shirts, but I keep getting a little stuck on them. Thankfully, a friend of mine from the Sew ‘n’ Swap Judy, had a brilliant idea. Lining for the lining!

Here was the issue. I had bought this interfacing so I could finish up this shirt dress jumper deal, but it was pretty unappealing. I couldn’t imagine wearing it against my skin.

Wardrobe Redress: One shirt, two ways

Hi there, it’s Karen again! A few weeks ago, Kristin let me share a few of my attempts to “fancy up” my wardrobe. This week I have two more projects to write about. Last time, I wrote about my two tactics: embellishment and reconstruction. I thought it might be interesting […]

Getting Organized: Yarn Scrap Explosion!

Yikes! Look at that pile of tangled up mess. I have a bin that’s specifically for leftover yarn and over the last few months I’ve been slipping a little bit of this and that in and out of it. When I went to find a particular ball of yarn a […]

Wardrobe Redress: Making the old new again

Hello there! It’s me, Karen. You might remember meeting me. Kristin introduced me here. I’m stepping out of the background today to share a few projects. When Kristin started her Wardrobe Redress series, it got me thinking about my efforts to “fancy up” my wardrobe. Since my three little boys […]

Wardrobe Redress: Cowboy Knit Shirt!

Last week I told you about the shirt frenzy I’ve been under lately, cutting out the patterns for 3 shirts in one day! Well, I actually got one finished! I did exactly as Design-It-Yourself Clothes spelled it out, and it worked! Check this out: Rah! The most awesome shirt ever! […]

Wardrobe Redress: Making more shirts

I’m making a little shirt dress with pockets from a store bought pattern. I pinned the pieces out on the fabric and have just barely enough to make it. I need to iron the fabric out and I’ll be all set to cut. Those little flowers are so cute! They […]

Wardrobe Redress: Fancying up my closet

Nope, I’m not talking about interior decorating, I’m talking about a whole new redress series here on Craft Leftovers! I’m going to turn my attention from the apartment and studio (which I think are looking pretty good because of all the apartment redress projects) to the closet. Specifically, to my […]

Redress: New Studio Check in Part 2

It’s been a month or so since I moved out of my home studio and into the office space. I decided to leave a workspace for myself at home so I could work on my painting and drawing there. Mainly my more messy crafts–dyeing, basket weaving, painting, paper making, collage, […]

Redress: New Studio Check in Part 1

It’s strange to think that I moved into my studio just 2 (well, okay, getting closer to 3) months ago.  How could I ever have done Craft Leftovers without it? And how could I have lived and cooked with it all smashed into every nook and cranny of the apartment? […]

Redress: Pillows Part II: Recycled Stuffing Material

Last week I posted about my fight with pillow stuffing and how I’ve gone on a quest to figure out what works best. Shredded Paper Shredded Fleece Plastic Bags All Sorts of stuff – bits of yarn, thread, fleece, paper, and dryer lint. After making 4 small pillows and stuffing […]
