Cat Hoodie :: Makin’ Me Purr :: Free Knitting Pattern!

Cat Hoodie - Making Me Purrrrrr.... I made Molly a cat hoodie quite some time ago. Jason and I thought RapCat (checkers’ commercials) was just too ridiculous and therefore, pretty funny. We invented a synario where RapCat was Molly’s secret lover and it was a long standing, pretty bizzare, joke. We even joked about Molly wearing RapCat’s hoodie, you know, the blue and blue one. We laughed so hard about it…. and then I made one for her and we laughed some more. And the really funny thing is she doesn’t mind wearing it at all!

Now I know that a lot of cats would have serious objections with any kind of hoodie being put on them, even if knit with the most love. So some other ideas for the hoodie – Big Panda Plushies, A willing stout puppy dog (a little pug maybe?), you get the idea :)

It just happened so well that when I woke up this morning snow was covering the ground. Perfect! Jason and I slipped the hoodie on and took her outside. She was actually really curious about all the snow. I suppose it’s been a year since the last time she saw it.

I wanted to let you know that I still have Holiday issues of clm in the shop as well as quite a few new goodies! Two never before sold kits! I added a new “NeedleWork Kit” section to the shop just for them. You should at least give it a peak.

Oh and speaking of shop things, I posted new yarn in Green Prairie Fibers and reopened Kro Postal! It’s completely stocked up, and I have a few Holiday themed cards that I’m taking pictures of tomorrow and they will be up on Wednesday. I’m hoping to get some collage kits together tomorrow to and those will be really great Postal Goodies to send to friends. Hooray for post!

I totally want to make that. I think only my fluffiest cat would tolerate the sweater, and she’s the one who needs a sweater the least.

  2. heather says:

Ha! Love it. I don’t have a cat, but that is super fun.

  3. Terrye says:

I am posting about this pattern in my blog today. Although, I want to make it for my grand-pomeranians, maybe, if I have time, which I don’t, but I still want to make it.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. Rachel says:

Oh my this is FANTASTIC! I love it! It made me laugh so hard! Seriously, it would be worth it just for the pictures! I think it would work really well for my tiny cat when we spend cold days weeding the garden. Hmm… I’ll be linking.

  6. Nancy says:

OMgosh that is so cute!! as is your kitty!

  7. Indy Grrrl says:

Adorable! I need one for my Bengal, but I wish I could just buy it instead of making it…mine wouldn’t turn out as great as this one : )

  8. Julie Andrea says:

OMG, your kitty is a model! I looked at all the pix, love the ones where kitty is posing, head held high, one paw in front of the other! LOL

You are so lucky to have a cooperative kitty, mine would diss me forever if I tried anything on her. Gotta go, her tuna dish is empty and I am getting ‘told off’. :-)

  9. I love it! I would have loved to have been there the first time you put it on – to see the look on her face. LOL

I’m going to make one as a gift for a friend’s cat – thanks so much for sharing the pattern!

I love this! I may have to knit one up for my kitty! :)

  11. Chris says:

I want to see the hoodie on the head with the ears sticking out. Now that would be interesting! Such an adorable kitty you have.

  12. Deanna says:

    Holy crap, this is adorable!

  13. that is adorable! there is no way that tiger would tolerate his “staff” trying to make him wear “people” (shudder) clothes, but it is very cute.

Beautiful hoodie. beautiful Mane Coon cat.

  15. Cait says:

I love it! I want to make one for my kitten because he’s majorly scrawny and can’t handle the cold. Just wondering how big your kitty is and how would I go about making the hoodie a little smaller? I’m beginner to sweater patterns so I don’t want to screw it up. Kitty is about 14 inches in the waist.
    Thanks!!

Hmm, I would say cast on 12 less stitch or so. Then when it comes time for the arms, bind off 2 less stitch for each arm hole and on your “back” and “front” keep in mind that there will be 2 less stitch on the front section and 6 less on the back section when working the decreases and increases. Keep the hoodie part centered and you will be okay. I hope this helps!

I always forget that Molly is at least a partial Mane Coon cat and therefore huge! When we first got her she was a stray and really small and only about a year old. Well she kept growing until she was about 4 and is now about twice the size of all other cats I know!

  17. I am trying to download your cat hoodie pattern, I am being told the Adobe file is broken. Is there a chance you could e-mail it to me. I do not mind if there is a charge for this.
    Hope you can help

  18. maggie says:

That is so sweet. I used to crochet hats for my two cats, they loved getting into my crochet hats so made smaller ones for them.

I’m not allowed to have cats now.

  19. Steph says:

Good thing for my cat its summer here. Molly looks insanely cute in her hoodie.

  20. Helena says:

OMG this was so easy to make. I’m having fun making different sizes. We are dog and cat lovers – tons of animals in our house and this is the perfect pattern. Already I’ve made6 sweaters and they fit the dogs perfectly. Thanks for sharing the pattern. I’ve made some of the sweaters with only a collar instead of a hoodie and it still looks great. Thx again

  21. kitty katt says:

Acctually i have knit my own kitten a set of booties and they fit him purfectually!!
cast on 20 sts in sock yarn on size 3 needles. work in st st for about half an inch. Increase to create a small puff like feature. bind off sew tog. Hope you can at least start a bootie

  22. Laurie says:

I found a mistake in the pattern… do you want to know about it?

  23. admin says:

haha, you bet! If you could email me the mistake at kristin {at} craftleftovers {dot} com I would really appreciate it. I just made up kits for this pattern, so I want to make sure it’s error free :)

  24. Emily says:

I tried to make it but got confused and frusterated around where you have to connect the gap for the hoodie. Did anyone else have this problem?

  25. Emily says:

    never mind
    *slap on head*
just took me a couple of times

  26. Jodi says:

Too cute! My girls wouldn’t stand for it, though! I’m pretty sure they’d scratch my eyes out or my arms off.

  27. Zoe says:

    Hey
love the hoodie but im really quite confused about the neck part with all the turns and everything! anyone help me out?
